Chicken Little Science: The Power of Panic

by Jessica Pacholski
Al Gore is not an expert in climatology, as a matter of fact he is only an expert on manipulation. That is all any politician can ever really be an expert in. So, I watch herds of basically well meaning people, march towards a cliff they can’t see because they have been blinded by their own good intentions. As well intentioned as they are their “environmentalism” is leading them to answers that are worse than the problem that we are supposedly facing.
The planets temperature has fluctuated since it’s inception. We happened to create our civilization during an unusually stable period in history as far as climate is concerned. According to ice core samples and satellite research, the temperature anomalies we have been experiencing are not a catastrophe waiting to happen, but simply a cycle that correlates to an increase in solar activity. That is unless you are one of Al’s soldiers. It has to be humans who screwed up the weather cycle, we are destroying the planet. We must act now or die!
What are their solution to our monumental problem? Well, we must become less dependent on “fossil fuels” because CO2 is to blame! We must increase our use of solar panels and drive hybrid cars to lower our emissions. I’ll bite, solar panels. Sounds good doesn’t it? No carbon emissions, right? Well, in the production of the circuitry and the panels involve the use of NF3. What is NF3? Nitrogen tri-flouride. It’s a greenhouse gas 17,000 times more potent than CO2 and is now being found in the atmosphere at 4.5 times higher levels then previously believed. NF3 also has the added “benefit” of being neuro-toxic, something CO2 is demonstrably not. Maybe I shouldn’t mention many of the components are made of plastics and for what the panels cost they don’t supply adequate power for running a modern household.
Hybrids will save us. Where will you get the electrical power to fuel your hybrid? That’s right coal, at least in most parts of this country. You have to plug these cars in to charge their batteries, which of course increases your household energy use. Not to mention the batteries they use are the most toxic car batteries made. Compact florescent bulbs? Wonderful, if you like dirty electrical emissions and a haz-mat team every time you break a bulb. Why? Mercury. I had to stay away from seafood for 27 months of my life because of it’s neuro-toxic effects and the danger to my daughters’ health due to in utero exposure. Now I will be compelled, read forced, to use a dangerous light bulb because it will lower my household CO2 “footprint”. I think I’d like to stick with the incandescent bulbs we already have. Oh, wait I can’t they will be ILLEGAL! Bio fuel? Let’s see, it takes almost as much energy to produce as it supplies. It also offsets acreage for food production and encourages clearing of woodlands for production. In short the solutions are just invitations to even more environmentally dangerous problems. Imagine what will happen to ground water when all those mercury bulbs and hybrid batteries start hitting the landfills.
Here’s an idea, since so many actors are pushing for us to go green, I say they should go first! No more award ceremonies, every time they congratulate themselves for their “heroic” work they blow the LA power grid, that could save enough CO2 to offset the rest of us using our washing machines. They could not make movies in previously pristine wilderness where they leave their Styrofoam sets painted with toxic enamel paints there afterwards. While on that subject, their use of private planes and helicopters to fly to foreign sets and expensive vacations could be sacrificed so that we simple folk could keep our minivans, you know, so we can get our kids to school. Only an industry so saturated with waste, so reliant on the leisure time found only in free capitalist societies, could ever be so pumped up with such a sense of self importance and have such absolutely hypocritical standards! If they had had an ounce of self honesty they would have burned “An Inconvienent Truth”, as the trash it was, instead of glorifying it so that they could feel as if they are doing something great and noble. Then again, burning it would have just increased their CO2 footprint; we can’t have that can we?
